Rail
Our rail projects include:
A review of rail depot accidents between 1998 and 2004 and the development of national mitigation strategies An assessment of the New Automatic Driver Box for London Underground (both the physical and cognitive tasks)Human Factors support to the Jubilee Line Extension Project Evaluation of the Wessex integrated control centreHuman Factors assessment of a rail tug unit by human-machine interface analysis and workstation assessment
Not only is the UK railway system the oldest in the world, it also one of the busiest in Europe. It is a complex sociotechnical system where Human Factors plays an extremely important role in maintaining and assuring operability and safety.
We are familiar with the Network Rail Human Factors standards (such as NR/GN/ERG/00027) which set out how, through the correct and timely application of appropriate ergonomic techniques and practices, 'user issues' are considered in a systematic way throughout the design lifecycle of a range of projects.
Of course, there are other standards, too - London Underground, for example, has its own standard for integrating Human Factors into systems development.
